Wardrobe can be called the most convenient item in the room. People quickly got used to keep and store things in the local place due to it. But it was not always so easy. The need to store things arose from the time the things appeared: minimal clothing, primitive utensils and other goods had to be kept somewhere. At first it became possible to arrange things due to the big chest that appeared in the Middle Ages. But it was not the best solution because your dresses were always crumpled and it was difficult to find the clothes you needed among the other things. So started to appear more convenient forms for storing goods.
The first cabinets were very primitive and clumsy. It was, in fact, the same chest, but placed vertically. Things in such construction were neatly kept: it was easy to find things laying on the shelves.
In the thirteenth century cabinets were built according to the architecture laws - there were the roof, columns and cornices. Such a small real house for things. First wardrobe - cabinet was made in the sixteenth century in Italy. These cabinets were real pieces of art and were decorated with the turtle plates, ivory and rare sorts of wood. In the XVIII century in the homes of the bourgeoisie were chests. Translated from French, this type of cabinet means "comfortable". The first chests were Italian Renaissance cabinets with the moving drawers. When in fashion prevailed things of Rococo style, these cabinets were distinguished by wavy contours and whimsical bronze ornaments.
In the second half of the eighteenth century the first sideboards appeared. They looked like cabinets with the low drawers on the cylinder bases. Later turned into a console table with the sliding drawers. The popularity of these cabinets lasted a little less than a century. In the XIX century traditional but spacious cabinets were used. Twentieth century brought into fashion to the so-called "wall - units" - combination of several cabinets for various purposes (for books, for dishes, laundry) in one composition.
Undoubtedly, color preferences of different countries reflected on the cabinets design and decoration. In Venice, for example, cabinets were decorated with mosaics and inlay. In Italy, for example were very popular cases decorated with rich carvings. Wardrobes in Switzerland were mainly produced of aspen or pine. In France and Germany the main material for making cabinets were oak, and decorated such furniture was with the iron hammered hinges and ornamented locks.
We can see that such a common element for storage goods and various household items as cabinet passed many transformations and changes. Due to such modifications modern wardrobe became such a convenient piece of furniture and it can be manufactured using diverse historical stylization.
